VARIETY, CULTURE & YATER TRIBUTE HIGHLIGHT SACRED CRAFT VENTURA SCHEDULE

Two day expo features Yater tribute, PT Vs Shaun Tomson, appraisals, art, film, board demos, seminars and much much more.

Encinitas, Ca. (April 2, 2010) –   The widest category range of surfboard designs ever assembled will be on display at the Sacred Craft Consumer Surf Expo in Ventura, Ca. Long, short, no fin, 5 -fin, wide, narrow, thick, thin, old, new, wood, foam, carbon, hand shaped, molded, standup, kneeboard, handplane, you name it, the surfboard is front and center at Sacred Craft. J7, Tomo, Cooperfish, Danny Hess, Fineline, and Wegener are among the many talented craftsman, manufacturers and designers exhibiting at the expo — a full list is below.

“It is not fair and quite frankly rather impossible to pigeon-hole the exhibitors into any one category,” said Expo Director Scott Bass. “Really the only category on display at Sacred Craft is passion; a passion that manifests itself as a cornucopia of surf design ideas with limitless synergy.”

Surfboards remain at the very core of every surfers’ experience and therefore at the core of Sacred Craft. However, in and around the expo are some exciting elements that are sure to stoke the large crowd expected at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

The Tribute to the Masters Shape-off presented by US Blanks and honoring legend Renny Yater has six shapers (Todd Proctor, Wayne Rich, Matt Moore, Michel Junod, Nick Palandrani, Dennis Ryder) replicating a classic Yater Spoon. In addition, Yater has curated, along with the Surfing Heritage Foundation, a “BOARDS OF RINCON” exhibit; a chronological time-line of the boards ridden at the legendary Queen of the coast.

Transworld SURF is hosting “Surf Nerd”, a trivia game show which will pit former world Champ Peter Townend (1976) against former world champ Shaun Tomson (1978) in a battle of surf trivia knowledge.

In the SurfersVillage Grotto Robb Havassy’s Surf Story Project artist collective studio & gallery will present a unique array talent painting the day away. SURF STORY PROJECT book signings will take place and tons great deals on art. Next door, the Korduroy.tv lounge is running a unique short film program.

Also on tap are the seminars/panel discussion including one fiery topic, The Impact and Ethics of Standup Paddling. Tons of other stuff to see including live glassing, laminating, Young Guns of Shaping demo (featuring PacSun USA Surf Team member Andrew Doheny), art, culture, music, food, and family fun (an HD broadcast of the Masters).

EPS blanks. Imagine shaping your EPS blank in the morning and surfing it before
noon. Now imagine doing that with a resin that is eco-friendly and incredibly tough.
The new resin, ZEROVOC is exactly what the name implies, Zero VOCs (vapors). It
is a one-part system with no toxic or flammable vapors or hardeners that can cause
allergies to glassers. The insurgence of so many EPS blanks in recent years has
prompted the need for a clean, fast method to glass a strong, light board.
ZEROVOC is it. Presented by Bubble Gum Surf Wax.

About SACRED CRAFT CONSUMER SURF EXPO
In the beginning, it was all about the surfboard. The only thing that mattered. From ancient Polynesia to the ASP World Championship Tour; from Waikiki to Maverick’s; from The Endless Summer to Surfline; as the eras passed what we’ve worn or said or listened to or traveled to or read or watched are just sidebars on surfing’s timeline. Because the history of our sport is the history of the surfboard. Nothing has defined the surfing experience more than that on which we ride the waves. Nothing defines the surfer more than his (or her) surfboard. So much more than a tool, the surfboard has become a philosophical icon, a sacred craft, a culturally pervasive symbol of freedom, adventure and enduring youth.

Baldy with Surf Talk Radio

Baldy with Surf Talk Radio

My full name is Jeffrey Baldwin. My nick name is Baldy and pretty much the surfing world over calls me by it??
I’ve been married for 9 yrs to an amazing woman Krista who is 10 years younger than I and vastly more mature. I have 3 daughters Isabella 10, Analiese 8, and Malia Jolie 2 and my boy dog Samson 4.
I was born in Montclair New Jersey but moved to California at 3 months old. Lived in Dana Point until I was 3 then grew up on the sand in Del Mar ever since.
I spent my youth surfing and playing soccer. I was sponsored at the age of 16 by a young Bob Hurley who ran Billabong USA (before starting Hurley clothing) and thrown out into the world of surfing competition. I moved to Australia when I was 17 ½ chasing the dream of every photo I had ever seen of Rabbit, Cheyne Horan, Wayne Lynch or Occy… the list is long. After returning to the US I dove straight into the pro ranks and had some success which led to the rest of my life in surfing. I competed on the ASP world tour from 89′-93′ an incredible time in my life, traveling the world over and realizing who I was as a person.
I’m currently a Senior Sales Executive for Transworld Media, Surf, Skate & Snow. I’ve been working with TW since 2001 and loving every minute…what a company to be a part of!!!
My life revolves around the ocean and traveling. Be it ripping the guts out of good waves, paddling long distances on my 12″ Joe Bark, SUP sessions anywhere and everywhere or just adventuring beaches with my kids.
So thanks for listening to Down the Line radio and hope to see you soon
